Frequently Asked Questions About Buying a Domain from EJ Roberts Is it safe to buy a domain from EJ Roberts? We are members of Nominet (Registration Number S03332) and as such are bound to fully comply with their terms and conditions of membership. If we were to accept payment and not transfer your chosen domain, you can report us to Nominet. The matter would be fully investigated and if we are found to have acted incorrectly the domain would be taken from us and handed over to you. Furthermore, if we acted unethically in regard to domain transfers we could risk losing control over ALL our domains, and possible expulsion from Nominet. So, as you can see, we have a lot to lose by failing to complete a transaction once a sale price is agreed. How soon can I use a domain once I have bought it from you? This depends on two factors
How do I complete the transfer process? Try to visualise the transfer process in two stages; similar to buying a car: The first stage involves us receiving payment and handing control of the website to you. This happens when we RETAG the domain from our server to your chosen Internet Service Provider. You can liken this to driving away your new second-hand car as soon as you have paid for it. Once the domain is on your ISP server it is fully in your control. The second stage involves altering the registration paperwork to confirm that you are the legal owner of the domain you have paid for. Think of this as the period when you wait for DVLA to send you out a new vehicle registration document. We contact Nominet and initiate their domain transfer procedure. We confirm to Nominet that we are releasing the domain and give them your name, address and contact details as provided at the time of purchase. Nominet will then email you to confirm that you are willing to accept the transfer, asking you to complete a form to that effect. They will charge you a one-off fee of about £12 to change the register over to reflect your new ownership. Once I own a domain, what other fees will I have to pay? In regard to the domain name, please note that all UK domain names come up for renewal every two years. The domain you purchase from us will have some time left on its current registration which you will inherit free of charge when you buy the name. If you want to check and see when the next renewal date is on your domain visit Nominet’s site here and key your domain into the WHOIS search box. You will then see full registration details, together with information as to when the domain will needs to be renewed. Your ISP will automatically renew the domain (unless you instruct them otherwise). Most ISP’s charge the renewal fee in with their other services, such as webspace and email facilities. As a guideline however, they should not charge you more than £20 to renew the domain for a further 2 years. It pays to shop around if you think that your ISP fees are too expensive. Any other fees you will pay whilst using your domain relate entirely to charges made by your Internet Service Provider for hosting your domain. If you are not using the domain immediately, your ISP will ‘park’ it for you for a nominal fee. I have further specific questions about purchasing domains from you Please email us and we will get back to you as soon as possible |
